WHAT TO EXPECT OF CANBERRA IN JULY

December 7, 2017

Whilst the NSR Kanga Cup action is sure to be hot on the field it’s no secret that Canberra in July can be quite a cold place to visit! If you are new to extreme weather conditions, the early morning frost can be quite a surprise to the unwary! So what can you do to be prepared for the inevitable cool nip of a July morning in the national capital?

Canberra is about 150 kilometers from the coast, and about 600 metres above sea level. This means that it can become quite windy and is notorious for its cold winters as any veteran of the NSR Kanga Cup will testify.

First thing is to make sure that you are appropriately attired. Bring a quality coat, large and warm and something that you know can withstand the cold climate. And accessorize with a good pair of gloves and even a scarf. Keeping yourself warm is crucial and, when playing, this means getting in a very good warm up. Listen to your coaches who will advise on the best way to prepare for the matches.

You can help prevent the, almost, inevitable colds and flu by following personal hygiene rules. Washing your hands is the single most important way to stop the spread of colds. According to the CDC, about 80% of infectious diseases are spread by touch and following this simple rule helps to prevent the spread of germs. Also, cover your nose and mouth if you are going to sneeze and always use a tissue rather than your hands.

In terms of playing in the tournament, remember your boots of course! Studs are okay to be worn providing they are not dangerous. Be aware that match officials may check your stud condition before be kick-off.

Shin pads are also compulsory and compression undergarments can be worn, although they must be the colour of your primary shirts’ sleeve although they can be worn with your change strip no matter what the colour. Jewellery must be removed prior to the match commencing as per normal regulations.

For any further information regarding the rules and regulations of the 2016 NSR Kanga Cup, please refer to our website at kangacup.com. We look forward to welcoming you to Canberra.
