What is The Kanga Cup?

April 5, 2023

The Kanga Cup is the largest International Youth Football Tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. Held annually each July in Canberra, Australia, the week-long event proudly champions the mission of Uniting the Youth of the World through Football.

Run by Capital Football, the governing body for football in Canberra, the tournament is sanctioned by the Football Federation Australia and the Asian Football Confederation.

The Kanga Cup had humble beginnings, starting in 1991 in Sydney before moving to its new home of Canberra in 1993. The inaugural Kanga Cup had just 35 teams participate, the 2018 edition had over 350 teams take part, seeing 5000 participants from Australia and overseas meet in Canberra for a week of football, culture, fun and friendship like no other.

As Australia’s premier football festival, the Kanga Cup holds a special place within the football family and is an annual calendar highlight for youth footballers of Australia and the world.

After a successful return in 2022, the 2023 edition is set to be bigger and better than ever and clubs from around the country, and further afield, are encouraged to register for their respective age groups and, with competitions from under-9 up to under-18, there really is something for everyone.

An unrivalled week of football and fun, the Kanga Cup stacks the week with busy days of football partnered by a great social program including a massive Opening Ceremony, and a variety of optional events for teams to participate in throughout the week!

The competition strives towards its philosophy and mission “Uniting the Youth of the World through Football” and as such the tournament provides an opportunity for participants to meet players from all over Australia as well as overseas. Past international teams have been from Fiji, South Africa, Korea, Georgia, England, New Zealand, the United States of America, Chinese Taipei and many more.

Our team is ready to welcome you to the Nation’s Capital for a tournament that creates memories that last a lifetime. Your clubs can register to attend the 2023 Kanga Cup here: https://kangacup.com/kc2020/register-now-2/.

Kanga Cup. Fun. Friendship. Football.
