KICKEROOS FIRST TEAM FOR KANGA CUP

April 4, 2024

Based in the heart of Sydney, Kickeroos will make their Kanga Cup debut in July, registering for the prestigious Youth competition on the opening day of registration, and becoming the first team to get set for a week of Fun, Friendship and Football!

Playing in the U9 Open Shield, the Kickeroos was founded in 2009 focused on fun football for young children. Over the years Kickeroos has gained older age groups focused on improving their skills and be challenged with weekly competition and tournaments throughout the year.

At Kickeroos, the philosophy is that children learn best when they are having fun, and they use that as the basis throughout the entire program. They encourage and develop all skill levels in a fun, active, challenging, and technical (FACT) sporting environment.

“We entered Kanga cup to give our players the best football experience in Australia,”  Hicham Sakhi, Team Manger of the squad told kangacup.com.

“I always had great feedback from the tournament in term of organisation, facilities, punctuality, and staff. Kids will be in a football atmosphere where they can make new friends and learn from each other.”

Sakhi, who is Head coach of the Kickeroos Development Squads also has the privilege of organising the teams, parents communication, tournaments, events, and ceremonies and is looking forward to getting to the National Capital. .

“This will be our first time participating in Kanga Cup and we are very excited!” Sakhi commented. “We are hoping to make our kids enjoy playing football in a fun and competitive environment.

“I haven’t been in Canberra personally, so I am very excited to explore the city with the parents and kids. I know some of the parents are already organising accommodation, dinners, and activities for the team during the days.”

Even after thirty-two editions the Kanga Cup continues to be a massive drawcard for teams from around Australia, and the globe, and Sakhi is

“As you mention on the Kanga Cup website, it’s the biggest children’s soccer tournament in the Southern Hemisphere,” Sakhi admitted. “For Kickeroos, this will be the biggest football tournament ever. Last year we went to the Sydney International Cup in North Sydney and loved it. We are expecting to have a similar, hopefully better, experience!”
