The 2024 Kanga Cup was one of the biggest versions of the tournament to date, with 355 teams, 4,450 players, and over 1,000 games in the national capital for what amounted to an incredible week of football.
These games, and a successful competition, would not be possible of course without the incredible efforts of our referee cohort.
For the 156 referees in attendance, covering all games during the week was no easy task. With roughly 300 games per day, this meant that referees would have to do multiple games every single day, a task that they attacked with relish and unbridled enthusiasm.
An astonishing 98% of all games at the Kanga Cup had a centre referee in charge of the match, with many also having assistant referees.
Throw in venue changes due to inclement weather, some unavoidably having to be made at the last minute, and their efforts become even more incredible.
Of course, as a tournament, we strive for 100% coverage of all our matches and are working hard towards making that the case ahead of the 2025 Kanga Cup.
We are always looking for extra match officials to make the tournament a success and will be embarking upon a thorough and comprehensive referee recruitment program for next year’s edition.
If you are a match official and would like to be considered for the 2025 Kanga Cup, either locally or as a member of the Kanga Cup Youth Referee Academy, please contact referees@kangacup.com for further information and keep an eye on our website, kangacup.com, and social media channels in the early months of next year.
