Hills United FC U11 GSAP have the honour of being the first team to register for the 2023 Kanga Cup. The team, from Western Sydney, will travel to the Nation’s Capital, Canberra, for the youth football festival between 2-7 July.
It didn’t take long for Hills United to make the decision to sign up for a week of fun, friendship, and football at the biggest and best football tournament in the Southern Hemisphere.
Hills United Football Club was established in 1989 following Castle Hill United FC and Baulkham Hills FC recognising a strong demand and need for the Hills Community to have its own representative Football Club so the Youth and Adults of the Hills region could play elite level football.
For U11 GSAP Head Coach Greg Clay, getting involved in a competition as prestigious as the Kanga Cup was a no-brainer.
“Not only is it an excellent opportunity for the girls to experience tournament football, but it will also be a bonding experience for them to get away together and explore Canberra, “ Clay said.
“We will hopefully organise a few side trips to the AIS, Questacon, and some other places around Canberra.
“We have had a trip to the Kanga Cup on the radar for a little while now. But this will be the first time this particular team has attended. We have heard so many great things about the tournament and can’t wait to experience it ourselves.”
The team was quick off the mark when Early Bird Registrations opened and for Clay there was a particular reason for them to do so.
“The girls are excited, and we wanted to ensure we didn’t miss out!” he said. “I would encourage more teams to sign up and join us. The more teams the better and we would love to come up against some teams we have never played before.
“As representative football club based in the Hills District that offers pathways for local aspiring footballers across boys and girls NPL and our champion powerchair squad, who everyone at the club is very proud of. We can’t wait to get to Canberra and represent our club.”
