Returning to the KEEPUP Kanga Cup for 2023, Rockdale City Suns are aiming to go one better than last time and take home the silverware at the end of what they hope will be a memorable week representing their proud club in the National Capital.
Twelve months ago, the Suns reached the Grand Finals at Southwell Park in Lyneham and were extremely unfortunate to not come away with a tangible winners’ reward from their experience.
With that experience under their belts, and the knowledge of what it takes to be successful at the event, the Suns are determined to make sure that the team can eclipse that feat, all while enjoying the fun and games that the KEEPUP Kanga Cup has to offer in spades, of course!
“We entered the competition last year, and we had a great time here,” Coach Samer Nicola told KEEPUP Kanga Cup. “We reached the finals however we were very unfortunate not to have won. Hopefully we can do one better this year.
“Our hopes though are for the team to continue sharing and making wonderful memories together through this tournament. It is a well-established and an internationally recognised tournament. We had an awesome time last year and we are looking forward to this year’s edition.”
Rockdale City Suns was formed in 1969 and represents the St. George district, and their local community, in the highest level of football in NSW. Based out of the Illinden Sports Centre within Bicentennial Park, a football specific complex, the club compete in the famous red and black stripes that have been the hallmark of Rockdale teams for decades.
“We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive to be the best at everything we do,” Nicola said.
“Our growth over the years has seen the club branch out to include our senior setup who compete in the NPL NSW Men’s 1 competition, our youth who compete in the NPL NSW Boy’s 1 competition, the Skill Acquisition Program, and we also field over 35 teams in our locally run SGFA competitions.”
Aided by Manager Diana Matlioski, the Suns will have a busy schedule at the Cup, with the matches forming the spine of what will surely be a week that will live long I the collective memories of all their participants.
“Outside of the games we will go bowling, have dinner with the team every night, and allow the boys to catch up and have fun. I would like to thank the Club for supporting us to enter the tournament, the management and coaching staff, parents, and players for allowing this to happen.”
With this kind of backing the Suns are sure to shine at the 2023 KEEPUP Kanga Cup.
