Singapore-based ActiveSG Football Academy (AFA) is a football academy that was founded in April 2016. The academy is led by former Singapore international footballer Aleksandar Duric, who is accompanied by a team of coaches experienced in youth football.
The ActiveSG Football Academy offers programmes for children as young as three, right through to footballers aged 17. Spanning 10 satellite centres across Singapore, the academy aims to provide every youth in Singapore with the opportunity and resources to learn how to play football and to further their development in the sport. The academy programme also adopts a holistic approach, ensuring that each youth not only develop technical skills, but also life skills and traits such as discipline, respect and teamwork.
This year, the academy will be making its Kanga Cup debut, with their U/9 and U/11 sides representing both AFA and the nation of Singapore.
The players and coaches venturing to Australia are excited to be part of the tournament for the first time and are looking forward to the prospect of training and living at the AIS.
The coaches believe the Kanga Cup will be a tournament that the academy players will aspire to play a part in and hopes that their journey this year will inspire the rest of the academy’s participants to do their best to qualify for subsequent editions.
With the tournament nearing, it will be intriguing to see how teams from the Singapore-based academy fare.
