Adamstown Rosebud FC is aiming to go above and beyond in this year’s KEEPUP Kanga Cup 2023.

Founded in 1889, Adamstown is enriched in history, participating in the Northern NSW NPL and Junior Development Leagues (JDL).

The four teams that travelled down from Adamstown, Newcastle all participate in the JDL competition with some players even stepping into the Newcastle Jets academy later down the track.

The girls have been excited to play in this tournament and played a few warmup games in preparation.

“They train three days a week and then they’ve been playing some extra games against an older community team,” said team manager Danielle Stevenson.

“Being JDL, they still don’t technically have a ladder, however, they have won most of their games.”

The U12’s team is coached by young NPL player Jenna Doyle and wants to make sure the girls are having fun at the end of the day.

It’s about having fun and playing with your teammates. There’s the competitive side to it obviously but also to have fun, I think that’s the most important part.

The girls love to compete and try their hardest but enjoying themselves at the same time is a key focus for the club.

“I know my daughter takes it to heart, but it’s a matter of reminding her that it’s fun. The last thing you want is for them to not like playing. They love Adamstown, it’s a great club,” said Stevenson.

Stevenson also commended the tournament on its fixture structure so that the players, coaches and families can enjoy some time away from the field.

We had a great night last night at Ainslie Football Club, we ended up with a bit of singing and dancing. And I know some of our other teams, one went go-karting, we did Questacon,” said Stevenson.

“I think that’s why it’s nice that they do have a little bit of time each day to go and do things.”
