Dates: Monday 14 – Friday 17 July 2025
The 2025 Kanga Cup will be held in the second week of the July school holidays. We acknowledge this change does not suit all participants but was made necessary as the British and Irish Lions are playing the Brumbies in Canberra on 9 July, significantly limiting accommodation options across the city.
Changing to the second week of the School Holidays has given the Kanga Cup Organising Committee (KCOC) the opportunity to trial some changes for this year’s tournament.
Registration Costs:
- U9: $1,280 inc. GST per team
- U10 – U13: $1,490 inc. GST per team
- U14 – U16: $1,700 GST per team
Upon registration a $250 deposit will be required. Please note: the deposit does not guarantee your place in the tournament, as your registration must be approved by the Kanga Cup organising Committee (KCOC).
If your nomination is not approved by the KCOC, then you deposit will be refunded in full.
No early bird discount period will be made available in 2025 due to the change in competition structure and the capacity on age groups and divisions.
Key Dates:
- 1 April: Team Registrations Open
- 18 May: Team Registrations Close & Final Payment Due
Key Changes
No Opening Ceremony
The all-in Opening Ceremony, traditionally held on the Sunday before the tournament commences, will be rested for 2025. Instead, smaller variations of an Opening Ceremony will occur at each of our tournament venues on Monday 14 July.
Tournament Structure
- The maximum number of teams able to compete in the 2025 Kanga Cup will be 324. This change is to allow the KCOC to focus on the delivery of a quality tournament and takes into consideration the allocation of resources, management of facilities and overall competition quality and value.
- There will be no U17 or U18 competition in 2025. This decision was not made lightly and is a result of low participation rates in recent years.
- Every team will play at least five (5) round robin games during the week.
- Every age group division will feature Semi-Finals before the Grand Final. The number of teams participating in the Semi-Finals will depend on the division structure.
- The number of teams that can be entered in each age group and division has been determined through a review of previous tournaments’ participation, availability of resources (fields, referees, facilities) and the need to ensure our fields survive the tournament for local football competitions post-Kanga Cup. More details are located in the table below.

- Each age group and division has a set capacity to the number of teams that can be entered. Please make sure to prepare and nominate your team registration early to avoid any disappointment.
- Whilst places in age groups and divisions will be allocated on a first in first served basis, team registrations are not guaranteed until approved by the KCOC.
- Please ensure teams are registered to the correct age group and division, based on the tournament criteria. Refer to Kanga Cup Tournament Information Guide for assistance with team division nominations. If unsure of the correct division for your team, please contact us at info@kangacup.com with your team’s information for assistance.
- Every team registration will be evaluated by KCOC to maintain the competitive balance of each age group and division. Team managers will be contacted if changes to registrations occur.
- Once age group allocations have been exhausted for specific divisions, teams will be placed on a waiting list and be contacted if availability emerges.
